How to install Lumi ViewPoint

Learn how to install Lumi ViewPoint via the wizard or silent install.

Lumi ViewPoint Premium is free to download and use to author presentations and run reports. You should always be using the latest version of Lumi ViewPoint where possible.

To install the software via the wizard

1. Download the software from our website
   
   
   
2. Run the .exe installer
3. Windows may prompt you with a User Account Control message, press Yes to continue
4. The installer wizard gives a summary of the version you are installing, press Next to continue
5. The End User License Agreement is displayed, press I Agree to accept and continue installation
6. Next the components that will be installed are displayed, by default the components that will be installed are;
   • IML Click System
   • Lumi Services
   • Lumi ViewPoint
7. When the installer is finished you will be given the options to run Lumi ViewPoint and to create a desktop shortcut. Leave both selected and Press Finish to close the installation window.
   Note: If you do not run the application after installing then the addin will not have loaded. Double click on the Lumi ViewPoint icon to load the addin
8. The installer will install for all accounts on the Laptop

To install the software as a silent install

Our Installers use NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System) which is a professional open source system to create Windows installers. It is designed to be as small and flexible as possible and is therefore very suitable for internet distribution.

The assumption is that the ViewPoint installer is stored in the temp directory. To find your temp folder type %temp% into windows search bar or cortana record the address

1. Go back to windows search\cortana and type CMD
2. Right click and run as Administrator
3. In the window change directory to c: i.e type CD C:\
4. Type the location of the ViewPoint installer and /S (ensure you use CAPS) i.e. C:\Users\YourLaptopName\AppData\Local\Temp\setup.vpp5.16.0.3.exe /S

To uninstall the software silently 

Once installed the ViewPoint folder resides in C:\Program Files (x86)\IML\ViewPoint

To silently uninstall the software 

1. Go back to windows search\cortana and type CMD
2. Right click and run as Administrator
3. In the window change directory to c: i.e type CD C:\Program Files (x86)\IML\ViewPoint
4. Then type Uninstall.exe /S

Understanding the Installer

Checks if IML Click System is installed

Check is Lumi Services is installed

Detects users Operating System

Checks how many instances of SQL are installed – Required 2012 or higher

               HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL

               Enumerates these and presents them

Checks if Visual Studio 2010 is installed

Checks if FTDI drivers are installed - C:\Program Files (X86)\IML\Click Hub\FTDI Drivers\DPInstx64.exe

Checks .Net Framework is installed – 4.5.2 or higher

IML Click Hub Installer

Install IML Click Hub – C:\Program Files (X86)\IML\Click Hub\ImlHubHost-ClickVersion .exe

               Removes any previous install

               Creates firewall exception for IML Click Hub

               Ensures Net.Tcp Port sharing is auto and started

Adds Everyone permissions to

               C:\Program Files (X86)\IML\System Manager Framework\Pipeline

C:\Program Files (X86)\IML\System Manager Framework\Pipeline\Addins

Creates shared directory to C:\Users\Public\Documents\IML

Adds Everyone permissions to C:\Users\Public\Documents\IML

Lumi Services Installer

Terminates any current process

Checks SQL is installed

Checks .Net Framework is installed

Clears old files from Registry

Reserves port 9999 for REST Data service

               Writes is to HKLM\Software\IML\IMLServices\WCFDataServicePort=9999

Creates a Firewall Entry for Lumi Services

Creates a login of sysadmin in SQL Server

Creates two more reg entries

               HKLM\Software\IML\IMLServices\Databases

HKLM\Software\IML\IMLServices\InstallerControl

Creates Application directories

               C:\Program Data\IML

               C:\Program Data\IML\Temp

               C:\Program Data\IML\Logs

Finalises installation C:\Program Files (x86)\IML\IML Services\Iml.Services.ServiceHost.exe

Lumi ViewPoint Installer

Checks .Net Framework is installed

Creates directory C:\Users\Public\Documents\IML and grants access to everyone

Finalises installation C:\Program Files (x86)\IML\ViewPoint
